Bifold Door Panel Configurations and the Daily Access Door
A bifold door folds its panels into a stack at one or both sides of the opening. How many panels you have, and where they stack, changes how you use the door every day.
Reading a configuration
Configurations are written as two numbers: panels that stack to the left, then panels that stack to the right. Our bifold systems run from 2 up to 10 panels. For example:
10-0 or 9-0: all panels fold to one side, leaving the other side fully clear.
5-5: panels split evenly and open from the center.
5-4: an uneven split, useful when furniture or a wall limits one side.

What is a daily access door?
On many bifold layouts, one end panel can open on its own like a regular hinged door. This is often called a traffic or daily access door. You can let the dog out or step onto the patio without folding the full wall. Whether your layout can include one depends on the panel count and stacking direction, so we confirm it with your quote.
Inswing or outswing
Our bifold doors can open inward or outward. Outward folding keeps the panel stack out of your room. Inward folding keeps it off a narrow deck or away from outdoor furniture. Think about where the stack will sit when the door is open.
Threshold options
Three bottom tracks are available. A high performance threshold gives the most weather sealing. A low threshold sits lower for an easier step. An easy access threshold keeps the floor transition as flat as possible.

Other choices to plan early
Screens: a retractable screen option is available.
Panel width: fewer, wider panels mean fewer frames in your view; more, narrower panels make a smaller stack.
