What Affects the Cost of Aluminum Bifold and Sliding Doors?

Every custom aluminum door is built to the size of your opening, so there is no single price for a bifold or sliding door. What you pay depends on a handful of factors. Knowing them helps you compare quotes fairly and decide where to spend.

1. Opening size and panel count

Width and height drive most of the cost. A wider opening needs more panels, more glass and more hardware. Taller panels need heavier glass and stronger frames. Our bifold systems run from 2 up to 10 panels, and our sliding systems from 2 to 6 panels.

2. System type

Bifold doors, multi-track sliding doors, ultra-slim sliding doors and lift-and-slide systems are built differently. Lift-and-slide hardware, for example, is designed for large, heavy panels and adds a lifting mechanism. See our bifold vs sliding doors guide for how the two compare.

3. Glass package

Double or triple glazing, Low-E coatings, and tempered or laminated glass each change the price. Your climate, energy goals and safety needs decide which package makes sense.

4. Frame, finish and hardware

Thermally broken frames, standard powder-coat colors versus a custom RAL color, threshold options, handles and locks all affect the total. Learn more in our thermally broken aluminum guide.

5. Screens and add-ons

Retractable screens and other accessories are priced separately. Decide early whether you want them, because some need to be planned into the frame.

6. What sits outside the door price

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes. These items are often listed separately:

  • Product: frames, panels, glass and hardware.

  • Installation: labor to set, level and seal the system.

  • Freight: shipping large glass panels to your site.

  • Taxes: depending on your state.

  • Structural work: headers, beams, framing or floor changes that the opening may need. Your builder or engineer usually handles this.

What to have ready for a quote

Send us the opening width and height and the project location. Plans or photos help too. If you are not sure how to measure, read how to measure rough openings. Then request your free quote or browse our bifold doors and sliding doors.
